On October 1, OpenAI launched a Try On button in ChatGPT shopping results. Upload a selfie or full-body photo, tap the button on any clothing or accessory listing, and ChatGPT shows you how it looks on your body. You can also screenshot an item from any store and ask ChatGPT to try it on for you. The feature uses the new ChatGPT Images 2.5 model and is live globally on web and mobile today.
If you sell online, your return rate might drop. Customers who see the item on themselves before they order are less likely to send it back because it does not fit their style. You do not need to integrate anything or pay for a virtual-fitting plugin—ChatGPT pulls product images from the web. If you run ads for clothing, accessories, or anything people want to see on themselves first, test whether try-on changes your conversion or return numbers. Track it for two weeks.
If you are the buyer, use it before you place the order. It will not tell you if the fabric feels cheap or the seam rips, but it will show you whether the color works and the cut looks right.
The photo you upload stays with OpenAI. ChatGPT saves your reference photo for future try-ons and, unless you opt out, can use it to train future models. If you sell to customers, tell them that before they upload. If you are the shopper, go to Settings, Personalization, Reference photos, and delete it when you are done. Do not upload photos of your kids, your employees, or anyone who did not agree to it. The try-on is a preview, not a promise. A person still decides if the item is worth the price and the return policy makes sense.
