ChatGPT now builds calculators right in your chat

Sovereignty angle
A slider looks like software. Software looks trustworthy. Check the math behind every calculator ChatGPT builds for you—a polished interface doesn't make the numbers right.

OpenAI rolled out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI on Oct 7-8. ChatGPT now builds interactive tools—calculators, forms, charts—directly in the conversation instead of just text.

What changed

OpenAI released GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT on October 7-8, 2026. Paid users (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise) got GPT-6 Sol on October 7. Free and Go users got GPT-6 Luna on October 8. The new feature: ChatGPT now decides when a chart, calculator, or form works better than plain text, then builds it directly in your chat.

Ask it to split a dinner bill four ways, and instead of a paragraph, you get an interactive widget. Change the tip percentage with a slider. The answer updates instantly. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant now starts answering web searches 44% sooner than the previous model.

What you can do with it this week

Open ChatGPT and describe the tool you need in plain words. A savings calculator: tell it your monthly deposit and time horizon, then adjust the numbers with sliders right in the reply. A comparison table: ask it to lay options side by side with prices and features you can see at a glance. A bill splitter: tell it the total and how many people, then watch it build the math.

No pasting into Excel. No switching apps. The tool appears in the conversation.

What to keep in your own hands

Treat every calculator ChatGPT builds like a draft from an intern. OpenAI makes no accuracy claim for the formulas. A retirement savings tool or a pricing estimate may look polished, but a clean interface doesn't mean the math is right. Check the formula before you trust the number. If a financial decision depends on it, verify the result with your own calculation or a known-good tool.
